AQUATONE MIST 10’4 TEST REVIEW
Verdict
The Mist is a sharp-looking all-rounder with some smart design features that lift its practicality and desirability above a sea of competitors. This board is designed to pack smaller and weigh less than the average all-rounder. It’s an ideal family board to take whenever you head for the coast. The Mist comes with 4-piece paddle, pump, leash, so everything you need is in its compact backpack to start paddling safely.
Overview
The Mist is a compact all-round inflatable. The template looks like an elegant longboard with plenty of volume carried forward to the wide rounded nose, and rails swept in towards a rounded-pin tail. To achieve compact storage the Mist folds lengthways down the middle. To achieve this, the inflation valve is located just inside the rail, and the carry handle is offset. This offset actually works better for carrying in wind. The fins are twin push-in types with no centre fin.
The sectional EVA deck pad covers the standing area and helps with lengthways folding. A reinforcing stringer encircles the board nose to tail, stiffening up this light board.
The Mist comes complete with the 4-piece All-Style aluminium paddle, leash, and sleek pump in its compact back pack.
Brand Claim
The Mist offers a smart solution for travelling and storage. A tough yet lightweight core material and unique deck construction allow the board to be packed down to only half the size of a conventional air board. With the most popular all-round shape and a generous board width and thickness, the MIST boasts an uncompromisingly high performance for all riders to enjoy.
Performance
The Mist is an all-round board with the design brief steered towards practicality and an easy life for the paddler. This starts from the compact backpack not robbing space in your hatchback or cupboard under the stairs, or even luggage allowance.
This board is made using Aquatone’s Lite drop-stitch material, so it is light in weight, just 8.7kg. We think this, along with the 10’4 length make it a good option for smaller to medium sized riders who want start to finish independence on their SUP sessions. The Mist is still a whopping 295 litres with a recommended payload of 95 kg and a max. of 128 kg, so it will float you plus dog plus kit no problem.
The swept in tail gives a livelier feel for step-back turns and surfing in on small waves; it’s nice to see an all-rounder provide some feedback to the rider rather than just functioning as an inflatable platform to paddle around on.
