Verdict:

The Wave Plus is a big, friendly all-rounder that provides accessible performance for taller, larger paddlers and those at the start of their journey. We like the All-Star paddle with its durable Nylon blade which is shaped exactly as a sup blade should be.

There’s a bit more sweep in the tail of the Wave range of boards which frees up the back end a bit. This is good for offsetting that generous volume for a realistic paddling experience.

Overview:

The Wave Plus is a generously proportioned all-rounder that extends the brief out to 11’0 from the standard 10’6. Immediately this gives a steer that the Wave Plus is intended for taller, larger paddlers.

It features a familiar all-round template with rounded nose however the tail is a little more pulled in. The deck is clad in a pleasing one-piece EVA deckpad that runs right to the tail. Four D-rings are ready to accept a kayak seat. You’ll find a neat 4-point cargo bungee just above the tail. Behind this is the leash D-ring, and underneath that is the slide-in 9” centre fin.

A 13cm wide reinforcing PVC stringer runs nose to tail along the deck and bottom of the Wave Plus. This brings the stiffness back into this single-later iSUP.

In the supplied 105 litre gear bag is a pump, coil ankle leash and three-piece aluminium / Nylon All-Star paddle. It’s a vibrant tropical-sea blue and the blade shape is reminiscent of more progressive paddle designs.

Performance:

The pulled in tail is a good design feature, it stops a board as big as the Wave Plus is from feeling like a floating yoga mat and keeps it behaving like a SUP board should. You can perform step-back turns and if you do take it into small waves, it won’t feel like surfing a picnic table.

Schools would find the Wave Plus useful for a board that would accept just about anyone that walks through the door. It’s also plenty big enough as a tandem for parents and kids that are slightly too young to be let loose on their own.

The view from the standing area is clear and uncluttered thanks to the tail-mounted bungee. There’s nothing here to snag on which is good news for kids and adults alike hauling themselves back on deck. The Wave Plus is a clean, well-thought out entry level all-rounder.
