AZTRON SOLEIL EXTREME 12’0 TEST REVIEW

Verdict:

Aztron’s muscular Soleil Extreme showcases Aztron’s 2023 updates. The slick cargo straps up front and well-structured kick pad at back set off the evolved space-themed graphics. This capable tourer pulls double-duty as a windsurfer thanks to the integrated mast-foot. You can even fit a kayak seat to it.

Overview:

The Soleil Extreme comes with the double chamber technology (with a 150L inner chamber for extra flotation) pioneered by Aztron. It uses double layer fusion technology on drop-stitch fabric for stiffness and lightness. The board’s outline has a pleasing touring shape and it comes wrapped in the familiar space branding.

There is loads going on here. It features an integrated mast foot insert, for adding a sail, a sectional soft traction deck with a tail kick pad and 6+4+2 D-ring connectors on the board for attaching a bungee system or a safety leash. The centre carry handle and nose and tail handles take care of portage and we love the updated cargo bungee. Lastly, it includes double centre fins, which offer versatility for stand-up paddling and windsurfing.

Brand Claim:

Ride on the winds and chase the sun. This all-in-one collection comes in two outline alternatives – the all-round SOLEIL for full-level SUPers, and the touring shaped SOLEIL XTREME 12’0″ for the questing-spirit. With integrated windsurf mast foot insert and kayak seat option, you can get a leisure kayaking trip and an adrenaline-rushed windsurfing session with one board.

Performance:

The Soleil Extreme will do a lot of things, but we see it primarily as a keen touring board. There’s a nice sweep to the pointed nose that starts just in front of the mid-point. The squared off tail and parallel rails give nice release. At 32” wide the emphasis is on cruising and stability but you can punch this board into the wind without dramas.  Its dimensions immediately suggest a serious dual-purpose intent, offering a compromise between the stability required for leisure paddling and the speed sought after for those of us looking to push our limits.

What differentiates the Soleil Extreme (like all Aztrons) from most other brands is the distinctive double-chamber construction. We all appreciate the inherent risks associated with our sport, and this technology seeks to directly address those concerns, providing an additional layer of safety while out on the water. Aztron utilize fusion laminated drop-stitch technology in the construction of the Soleil Extreme. From my experience, this is a sure sign of a robust, long-lasting board that won’t buckle under the strains of regular, intense use.

The windsurf and kayak features are bonus territory for us. We like the Soleil Extreme for its SUP credentials, but when extra modes can increase your days on the water, what’s not to like?
