COTILLO
A couple seconds after I set foot onto the hot tarmac of Puerto del Rosario airport, I get a text from Eric: ‘’ Are you here yet? Call me, there is some good action this afternoon on the West Coast”. After the usual customs formalities and the rental of a cheap car we head north towards Corralejo, the main town of the island, to drop off luggage and grab some food before meeting Eric and Belar. They both seem highly motivated.
I’m driving through the red arid volcanic landscape and soon enter the main street of Cotillo. Following the map, I turn left and get committed to a small dusty coastal track on the edge of a cliff. ‘’Glad you finally made it! Are you well mate? Did you find it easily?’’ trilled Eric, standing against his old dusty 4×4 and watching the waves from above. ‘’The offshores are strong but there are some good waves, we should get in before the high tide kills it, let’s go!” With that he stowed his SUP board under arm and started down to the sea.
