With an hour of intense surfing and some very good waves perfectly exploited, the rising tide erodes the quality. Eric gets back to his car and says ‘Belar just left us a message. He’s surfing a few steps from here in a nice cove, we should join him’. We drive further along the rocky track, avoiding potholes and big rocks and after 15 minutes, stop above a small bay that hides a sheltered line up with beautiful lefts breaking in front of the cliffs. No time for sight-seeing, we’re in there.
Belar seems really familiar with the spot and patiently selects the best waves offering long and perfect open faces. He starts paddling on a lovely set wave and after an intensely crisp bottom turn, goes full speed through a large hollow section to finish with a big full-commitment front side carve. The Spaniard paddles back to the peak with a big smile and chats with the few surfers in the water. The atmosphere is friendly and everyone seems to deeply appreciate the quietness of this magnificent setting with the low sun shining a beautiful range of blue and orange colours on the cliffs. Eric leaves his sup board for a while goes bodysurf in the powerful surf, getting smashed in the shorebreak and having lots of fun. The sun in sliding down and this first Canarian day lived up to its promise. Everyone has one thing on their minds: get some rest.
