DAWN PATROL SESSION
Several days of decent surf pass and we explore the island’s treasures such as the villages of La Oliva and Betancuria, and take long treks among the volcanoes. Eric sees on the forecast the arrival of a building swell and a calm wind window for the next morning. It’s hard to guess how it will be but we decide to gamble on a dawn patrol session on one of his favourite reefs close to home. Tentatively, we hope for no crowds and a glassy line up.
The sun has barely risen as we meet at the end of a little road passing through beautiful villas and climb the wall in front of the beach that affords us a view of the line up. The swell is a little bit messier than we were expecting but there are some really nice right-handers breaking on the shallow reef with several good sections on the inside. There is almost no one in the water and the wind is light. Eric wastes no time getting ready and like a fakir walks barefoot on the sharp volcanic reef path leading to the channel.
