First light came with the sound of crashing waves, a natural alarm clock that could stir the sleepiest traveller from their tent. The empty pointbreaks provided hours of entertainment followed by a refuel of yep, you guessed it, tacos! As we munched, gazing out across the ocean, it seemed there was some movement on the horizon. Ever curious, Tom grabbed the SUP and stroked a mile out to sea. Having found some binoculars in the car, we could see that Tom was in fact paddling into an enormous shoal of thousands of mobula rays, who were swiftly being followed by a pod of fast moving humpback whales. We lost sight of him so far out to sea, one could only imagine the contrasting sensations coursing through his body; adrenaline, fear, anxiety, euphoria.
As the weary paddler made it back to shore, the once-in-a-lifetime experience had captured his heart and Tom become a Cabo convert.
