You seemed to have had great success this 2017 season, there are so many good results, I don’t know where to start. APP Japan, the Germany event, Eurotour…and of course your 2 silver medals at the European championships in Portugal, that’s really solid!
I have tried to stay focused and use the experience I gained in 2016 to keep improving. Portugal was of cours, a very important moment of the season, it’s a pleasure to be with the French crew and everybody was frothing to fight for the title. I was happy with my results but I know I was really close to win the technical race and can’t get out of my mind the few little mistakes I made, and against someone like Casper Steinfath, It can cost you the victory. I need to get my revenge next time for sure! [laughs]
I heard you also spent a few weeks in Portugal working on board design with Fanatic’s shaper Sebastian Venzel last year…
Yes, I worked with him to improve the design of the Falcon Race board, we wanted to gain more stability to paddle more efficiently without having to worry about balance. We wanted to keep its oceanic propriety: its ability to catch bumps and surf with a lot of control. We also worked on the Pro Wave and tested a few custom boards in different conditions, changed the rails and volume. It was really interesting to be involved in this whole process, I feel I learned a lot and the boards we got are definitely working well! I’ve recently worked on the 12’6 version of the Strike race board, which was only in 14’ before. We wanted to have something that could really perform in a wide range of conditions.
