Despite all this planning and experience, the most treacherous part of the entire project is often the final day or two prior to kick off. The backdrop for this year’s shoot was to be the stunning island of Sardinia, Italy, a casual 1,500-mile drive from our base in the South West UK. This year the responsibility of transporting our precious cargo of 38 boards, along with plethora of accessories, landed at my feet. To put it into perspective, at this stage there is only one of each type of board in the range in existence; each worth exponentially more than they will be at ‘street value’. As I check, double check and then triple check the contents of the van, I breathe a sigh of relief and let out a laugh, it would be a whole lot more difficult to transport this much kit if they were hard boards. Almost at the same time, a torrent of concerns hits me; will the ferry links be running? Will the weather be ‘on our side’? Will the van break down? Have I got the right documentation for the authorities? Will we get lost, or stuck or worse, lost and stuck?
