Ecological SUP boards
Starboard tries to minimize their ecological footprint on the world as much as they possibly can. They calculate and publish the carbon footprint of the product line and the company. Their partnership with the Thor Heyerdahl Climate Park in Myanmar allows them to sponsor and plant mangrove trees to offset the company’s carbon footprint. For every board purchased, they plant a mangrove tree which offsets 1 ton of CO2 over the course of 20 years. This allows buyers to purchase a board and be carbon negative in doing so.
Even though carbon sequestration is great – Starboard wants to do even better by emitting as little carbon dioxide as possible in the first place. Every day they work to eliminate virgin materials from their product line and look to find environmental friendly alternatives to mitigate their ecological footprint. Some of their latest achievements in SUP sustainability are replacing chemical resin with bio-resin, using recyclable materials – such as 50% recycled EVA for deck pads and recycled yarn and fishnet for fin boxes, less EPS by precision molding, and using the great eco-material balsa in several of their products. Starboard pledges to continue to strive towards blue business, creating best boards possible for the planet. SUP
