SO YOU WANT TO RIDE MOROCCO’S LONGEST WAVE?
Imsouane is no secret – but it’s not exactly Maui. While we wouldn’t exactly call it the outback, it’s a little remote – so here’s a few tips to if you’re curious about 5 minute wave rides on the west coast of Africa.
Fly into Agadir
It’s an 1.5 – 2.5 hour drive from Agadir International Airport to Imsouane. You can also fly to Marrakech – but plan on a five-hour drive to Agadir, either on your own or with a taxi. Once you get to Imsouane, you’ll be able to walk everywhere, so consider taking a taxi. It’s about €120 from Marrakech, €60 from Agadir. If you rent a car, do note that there is no diesel fuel available between Agadir and Imsouane.
There’s half-a-dozen grocery stores…
Each one smaller than your average petrol station. They’re typically rammed to the ceiling with pre-packaged junk food, although you can get some basics like yogurt or eggs. If you’re planning on doing some cooking, a stop at the Marjane supermarket on your way out of Agadir is a good idea. Want to pick up beers? Tough to do in Imsouane – we heard the Carrefour supermarket is the way to go.
Wanna SUP surf? Bring your own board
While there’s quite a few surf schools, none of them seemed to have up-to-date SUP equipment, if at all.
