Glass
Keen to distance ourselves, we spent most of our time between Fisherman’s, Kabalana Beach ,Welligama and only surfed The Rock when it was quiet. Most of time the surf was in the waist-shoulder register with some days head and half plus. We did score one epic session where we had the most amazingly crystal clear waves. When took off you couldn’t get a bearing on the depth or wave shape; it was like surfing on glass.
It was a week into our trip when things manifested. We were settling into the rhythm of Sri Lanka; understanding what waves were working and when, debriefing over curries in the evening. We pursued our strategy of avoiding the busier line ups and found a little used bank on the edge of rip at Kabalana Beach. We had been sharing plenty of waves with locals and visitors during the week.
