SUP: Stand up paddle surfing seems to have become more popular on Fuerteventura than on the other Canary Islands. Has this caused problems? And how have you dealt with them?
It’s OK, and that’s probably because we have several spots and could get away from classic surf spots than on others islands. This year we saw a lot of new people and tourist coming to FTV for sup, we saw Majanicho some days with twenty five stand-ups. And like all others disciplines when it gets crowded there is more tension on the line-up , but no big problem, we just have to give some good advice to beginners throwing boards away. Most of the sup beginners don´t know about surfing rules so we all need to explain them. Stand-up is sometime victim of its own success. I personally don’t have any problem with local surfers, I sup as I surf or I windsurf, catching my waves and respecting rules and people. It is about SURFING, good attitudes, respect and fun.
SUP: You and Nicole do a fantastic series of videos documenting your adventures. What’s next for ‘Los Lovers’?
Oh yes, Nicole loves filming and editing video, it is one of her passions. I also like it but when it gets good I have to ride first haha. It is interesting to film on a trip, you have to find new angles, sceneries, get in contact with the local community and life-style. It makes us enjoy our trips more and we can share it with friends, family and people. The next big trip for the Lovers will be Indonesia this summer, six weeks onboard a sailing boat with our friend and captain Raja, an old Californian surfer -charger, globe trotter, an authentic pirate surfer. Some good waves and good stories are waiting for us…
