Lonely but fun
Before we arrived, Pete had also posted a picture of a wave on Facebook with the caption “Bit lonely but a lot of fun”. As the swell receded, we started talking of options, with this seeming the obvious choice. In the few days we’d been there we’d got to know Erman the resort owner; he was from the islands and said he’d gladly be our guide. Before we knew it, we were off on adventure part deux. After another couple of hours in the car on some fairly average roads (which claimed a tyre), we offloaded into a small boat for a half hour cruise and were soon pulling into another level of remote desert-island-nirvana. With all the high budget surf resorts popping up around the northern atolls, Mama Silvie’s was right in our price range (bugger all) at $30 a night each for shared bungalows on the water. This was an unexpected bonus to a trip that had already blown our expectations.
