We shivered in the roofless boat is it sputtered around the island. We passed some fishermen on jetty and Erman pulled up and bought a couple of octopus and got interesting per kilo rate for some fish. This was the island he grew up on and what transpired next was just beyond cool.
We swam ashore from the boat with the fish, walked through the jungle and popped out the other side into the village where Erman grew up which. It was literally otherworldly. They had a fire for us, gave warm clothes and cooked the fish up over coals in the dark; it had a medieval vibe to it. And the Sumatran coffee they served up had the flavoured Hawaiian blend which totally blew me away. In a place so unaffected by time, we all left feeling a little blessed to have encountered such a respite from the weather and such a beautiful meal in the most surreal of circumstance.
