We didn’t shout about the waves we found, but we were joined by surfers on a couple of occasions, and we shared our bountiful ‘Bongo’. El Salvador is not a location for the faint hearted. Throaty barrels break incessantly on its sparsely surfed coastline which although beautiful, is kinda spooky. Rumours carry the threat of gang crime down from capital city San Salvador. Despite these rumours we never felt in danger even when we walked outside the compound of Las Flores into El Cuco, the local town.
The waves in the region are mostly right hand points breaking over sand and sometimes rock boulders; the swell was relentless during our trip averaging 4-6ft with occasional bigger days in the 6-8ft region.
