We also spent some time with Pablo Valencia, one of the best SUP surfers from Spain who’s lived in Fuerteventura for many years. He has his own custom board brand, Fortyfeet, and is also part of the Spanish national team.
For me it was special to have the ISA World Champion at my home spot. I travelled with Shakira to Hawaii and different spots around the globe (being Starboard Team Riders gave us the opportunity to spend more time together and travel as team mates) and we would talk about Canary Islands all the time.
Shakira is for my money the best goofy footer on the SUP tour and a fierce competitor. She has shown she can be the best in all conditions – Fiji last year and Denmark this year.
Brazil will be hosting next ISA Worlds toward the end of 2018 and right after that event there will be a big international SUP Contest in the Island of Gran Canaria (organized by Sports Club Morenotwins) so I will have the double challenge to organize and compete in a big event at home. It will be good to see Shakira charging the Canaries once again.
