It was under this influence that we decided to join the project and try to do our part in bringing the sport of stand up paddling to Cabo Ledo.
In a few weeks time after my first contact by Facebook with Telmo and Sergio, we were heading to Angola, packed with sup gear to contribute to Kionda’s project and to give our first SUPKids Give Back Program in Africa. In a few days we taught the kids of Cabo Ledo how to stand up paddle and above all to know and appreciate the environment in which they live, being aware of its hazards but also of its breathtaking beauty.
When we left, some of our gear stayed there in Cabo Ledo – certainly they needed it more than us – but also a piece of our heart remained with those children and with the Kionda family. We came back home thinking about how to help their project, which until now has been based solely on Sergio’s and Telmo’s efforts, as much as we could. Everybody has to do his part, so we decided that the most important help from us could come in the form of documenting their efforts and eventually in raising awareness to the importance of the work they’re conducting there, with the idea to bring the project forward and – who knows – maybe one day to be able to bring the fantastic sport of stand up paddling to other children, to other communities around Angola and abroad.
