In Austria, an alt-right radical invited to me into his lonely hut on the river banks to share his last piece of meat with me. I couldn´t change his attitude – he just said that I was doing the right thing with the paddling, being in nature and all. In Slovakia’s capital Bratislava, I met a Canadian-Australian couple who spent the night under the free sky with me and talked about love until dawn. During ten days of paddling in Hungary I never needed to seek a restaurant or supermarket as the people invited me to their homes or boats and gave me food for the way ahead which lasted until Serbia. Here, I shared my Hungarian bell pepper salami with a goat shepherd who owned nothing but his three animals and a dog.
