This time, things clicked together without much drama. I was most keen to stand-up paddle surf as I had been driving through NZ promoting Starboard’s latest SUP line. I would be carrying just what I needed – a 10’3” x 29” gun and an 8’5” x 30 Pro. The tow-boards were staying at home as I had been so fired up on stand-up lately it was all I wanted to do. Jason organized Scott McKercher to be our guide for the trip so I knew we were in safe hands. It’s always a prudent idea to have locals close by on a surf trip, pointing out the lay of the land and ocean, especially when you’re venturing 12 hours along a deserted coastline. Jason and I arrived late at night into Perth airport and Scott picked us up. We were soon driving around Perth, pulling together the last of our gear and crew that were coming along for the trip. Then we set off on our mission through the great Australian outback.
