You can ease yourself into the action on a nice break on a white sandy beach brushed with palm trees. The water is warm, there is space, what more does a surfer need? Every session is an opportunity to discover a bit more of the potential offered by these islands. Enjoying the landscapes and watching the view that changes with the light of the day, especially after a short flood.
Every evening you diligently check the forecast. The swell is on its way but for now there are plenty of things to do. I hang out in the streets, shoot pictures, watch the kids playing with nothing. Observe life that seems to be slower and quieter here. The beauty is hypnotic and makes us feel like we’re in a place that could be a tropical version of the Venice. Life will go on here until global warning will change the rules and make these people move away for good. So far it seems they still have some time ahead.
After a few days here I feel like I am very far away from my usual life. I get into the local rhythm; find the nice places to have lunch, the best empanadas for only a few cents, the hot sauce that comes along with every dish…I enjoy the ritual of the long walk between day and night at the end of the afternoon. Or the last surf session before sunset. It is definitely special. It is a place where it seems easy to get lost and enjoy it. I already know I will be back. Of course I still need to see it with a real swell….
