Sometimes you get lucky and the sun meets the swell. Of course it’s already crowded on the best pointbreak of the day. A bunch of hungry surfers from all over the world have arrived. I soon realize that it will not be the best place to take pictures. The wave is perfect but the take off zone is too narrow. I can’t risk hitting a surfer with my blade. I ask the boat driver to keep going and explore the area; it’s not easy being a paddle boarder. I wish I could just be surfing this wave but I’m sure I’ll have time later, on a surfboard. For now we keep sailing and observe the coast. Every wave we see is crowded. It is always the same story. There are a lot of people on this small planet and not so many waves after all. But then, as we turn around a point, I see something that might seal the deal – a solitary wave breaking in front of a little cliff dotted with tropical palms in the background! It’s a perfect setting, no one seems to be on it, it might be a sign of hidden danger…but the promise of a good picture is a strong call! We’ll go there.
