VISIT TO THE PORT OF CASSIS AND THE VILLAGE
Cassis is a little paradise all on its own, and the sight that awaits as you come into the port astonishes the girls, the evening light shining on the little houses adorned with lovely coloured shutters, and on the traditional wooden fishing boats. We feel that they are slowly succumbing to romanticism …lucky for them, we are – and remain – well behaved boys!
We spend our second day methodically exploring every nook and cranny of the coastline after leaving the port with our boards. The strong Mistral that blows off of the coast has made the temperature drop but delivers a superb and surprising light; as for the turquoise waters, they easily compete with any South Pacific rivals. Not forgetting the wonderful mountainous scenery and the local French culture and gastronomy to top it all off…
Inflatable paddleboards have definitely changed the way we can travel, explore coastlines and discover the beauty of our environment. I used to be totally closed to the idea of using an inflatable SUP board, but I have realised that it gives you the freedom to have a board stowed in the boot of your car, that you can take with you on the train or boat. On top of that, inflating your board is a great way to warm up…especially when you have the pleasure to also inflate Madame’s board!
The Côte Bleue and the Calanques of Cassis constitute an unforgettable trip. It´s hard to find the words to properly express the magnificence of the spots, and unfortunately, we forget too easily that these jewels are just at the tip of our paddles, a pity. I thank Klaas, Maria and Alice with all my heart to have allowed me to re-discover my home region from a new perspective, a place I thought that I knew in fine detail. They have also helped me to irrevocably change my opinion about these strange contraptions that inflatable SUPs seemed to be to me, until now. Pump up the jam, pump it up! Thanks too Eric of yellowflag.fr for lending us the boat. SUP
