Decide
So far we’ve talked about the benefits of good board choice and how it can contribute to your enjoyment of a session but it’s also a state of mind that you can choose. Set your priorities for the day, if it’s just going to be about catching some waves to blow away the stresses of the day and get some fitness going, which are both worthy goals to set by the way, then pick the board that will keep your wave count high. Equally satisfaction can come from getting that one turn or one wave that makes you feel like you laid some serious rail, progressed your level from the day before and brings you home very happy that you made the extra effort with your more performance orientated board.
You don’t get to choose your family but you do get to choose the boards that make up your surf sup family. None of the boards I’ve ever owned I’ve regretted, they all taught me something and contributed to my love and knowledge of our sport. It may sound shallow but changing your board is one of the quickest ways to alter the sensations you feel when riding and in turn increase your passion for paddling as long as you make honest decisions in the board choice process. Choose well and you will ride well, SUP surfing is a simple sport when you keep it that way! SUP
