We’ll get to the story, but first let us briefly introduce our three friends:
David: the multitasking guy. Fireman by profession, camera man and drone pilot on this trip. All-round natural sportsman in general.
Oscar: another fireman, the trip mechanic and most experienced motorcyclist of the three.
Nuria: the girl (in all stories there is always a girl, right?) From ex-banker to professional kiteboarder to total beginner on a motorbike; she learnt how to ride a motorbike ten days before the trip started.
David had this trip in mind for a long time, he wanted to go to Morocco and drive along the coast looking for the best waves and I’m usually down for anything that involves travelling and waves. The original plan was to do the trip in a campervan, load up our paddleboards and kitesurf gear and go off and explore Morocco. Then, last year Oscar and David and a few other firefighters went on a motorbike trip together and that’s when the original plan changed. In fact when they suggested going by motorbike I became doubly excited by the idea of doing something different, something that nobody had done before (and looking back now I understand why).
We worked out some dates that would work for the three of us and started planning the trip and everything we would need for it. The first and obvious thing we needed was a motorbike each. Ideally we would all ride the same type of bike to simplify the spares and repairs part of journey. Unfortunately I don’t have a motorbike license so I got a smaller one, a 125cc while David and Oscar each got a 600cc. Their bikes had bigger tanks so each time I ran out of petrol I would have to steal some from them.
