In the old days SUP surfers were nowhere near as adventurous, gravitating to the safety of well known East Coast breaks like Tynemouth, Saltburn and Scarborough where they could receive assistance if things went wrong – as they often did while early adopters perfected their craft. For a lot of newcomers and intermediate riders this is still the case but there has definitely been a switch in mindset for those with a bit more ability in terms of challenging what we used to think was possible on a SUP.
