Soup Bowl. It always looks so doable, so makeable, so mind-surfable, at least in the pages of a magazine. It even used to be Kelly Slater’s favourite wave before he got an engineering degree. Then you stand on the shore, watching it in person at last, and realise you’ll have to take the double-ups if you want a shot at glory, and the sea floor is just two feet below the surface and peppered with urchins. Suddenly the paddle out to the ‘thinking man’s wave’ of Palors looks enticing.
