After a quick lunch, we arrived to find the next spot completely empty as all the surfers had already left for the day. This late afternoon session turned out to be the highlight of the day. The left was perfectly tailored for Robby and Michi as these goofy footers showed some authentic “Big Island style” with the rough lava fields right in front of the take off section. It was really hard to get them out of there to catch their return flight to Maui – so hard that they almost missed their flights. Whether Robby is standup surfing, windsurfing or kiting, it is always such a pleasure to watch him in action. He surfed the spots on my home island for the first time as if he knew them inside out. His level of experience is hard to beat and he is one of my all-time waterman heroes.
