The 16th of December, 2016 was a day that saw the profile of sup in the ‘surf capital’ of Newquay, and beyond, receive a real shot in the arm. With a 3.7m swell singing in at 17 second intervals, it was kind of a case of cometh the hour cometh the man. To the hundreds of pairs of eyes gazing down from Towan Headland at the Cribbar, it was clear to see how the force multiplier of the paddle (and a decent amount of skill) and big board won the day. In the space of about ninety minutes, Dave Ewer, Nick Healey and Pete Edkins reminded the general public that sup is much more than inflatables in hire centres…
