It was something that felt very important at that moment: to slow down, to look at the big picture, to enjoy simple things and live fully. I guess that growing up also means achieving a wider perspective over things. I decided to devote my travel to Brazil to the novel “slow” approach to water-sports that SUP gave me.
A “slow” approach to travelling
In order to be true to my aim, experiencing first-hand the aquatic life of those water-bounded communities, I planned the trip as a multisport exploration of Brazilian North-East coast. My girl, Julia, would enjoy some kiting, I would concentrate on exploring the rivers by stand up paddling and some cruising along the coast with my Windsup – in fact I brought with me a Starboard inflatable Waterman Package – an inflatable board equipped with a foot-mast option for windsurfing, paired with a nice Dacron compact sail. I was ready for anything.
Our plan was to drive along the coast, living on the road and having fun on the water with our gear, whatever sport it was. In total we travelled non-stop for 23 days, the only rule being to stay flexible and enjoy what the ocean was throwing at us. The good thing is that in this way I knew I would enjoy the trip no matter what, with the only intention of exploring the different landscapes of the region with our boards. We started our trip from Fortaleza, heading up the coast through the states of Ceará, Piauí and Maranhão.
