And….what about the waves? There are wave spots on Sao Miguel, and some of them are very good. The WSL Azores Island Pro is held here, and good surfers seem grow in the water. Although you do have to score with the correct forecast, we were lucky with some playful north swell at a beach called Santa Barbara on the north coast. We had varying conditions, never big, but always fun. It was also un-crowded, not like we’re used to at home. No one else was there on a SUP, only us. We didn’t know if they were very happy to see us there, haha, but in fact they were very respectful. Of course we reciprocated; waiting our turn when there were people around. In the evenings, when it was not so glassy, it was difficult to get into waves with the 7’11”, but in the mornings at Santa Barbara it was pure glass and perfection, it was a dream, nonstop! Rights, lefts, sharing waves between us, with friends… Destroyed and starving by the end of the day, we had dinner in a surf bar, sheltered from the cold, with a perfect view of the spot and a really healthy menu. Great moments surrounded by a magical atmosphere, these ended up being the best days.
