Presumably you’ll be wanting to bring your sup kit (or rent from us at NuAdventure) rather than history books to Sardinia and we will get onto that but first one more interesting historical fact for you: many traditional Sardinian cottages don’t have sea views and can’t be seen from the shore, quite a curious situation for an island community. Neither does Sardinia have a traditional fishing heritage, for historically, ‘bad things’ have come from the sea around Sardinia. Principally: pirates and invaders, whose impact is remembered today in place names like Monte Morro, so called because it was a useful look out for the Moors and Monte Canaglia (Rascal Hill) where some so-called rascals settled down, and also in surnames like Ragnedda, meaning ‘wicked like a spider’. Today of course incomers to Sardinia are most welcome, bolstering as they do the considerable tertiary economic sector which counts for around two thirds of employment. Ok that’s enough background intel, now for the good stuff.
