In the afternoon we decide to go for a hike to the start of the Annapurna trek. On our way to the bus disaster strikes: the ground suddenly begins to shake. People start screaming and when we look up we see the buildings moving violently, just about to collapse. We run to the other side of the street, away from anything that might fall down on us.
Another big quake, a second wave, this time I am sure that the hotel I am looking at will come down, but miraculously none of the buildings fall. Suddenly it’s quiet again, just like nothing happened. Little did we know about what had just happened. We are a little shaken but still thinking that this is a regular occurrence in this area and so we continue our way to the mountains, walking a part of the trail to Annapurna. At a camp site, we meet a mountain guide who tells us about the many buildings collapsed in the whole country and the casualties in Kathmandu.
