The wave was Pacasmayo, and after watching those images I never forgot that name. The spot was a bit off the radar for the wider community then, but it wouldn’t stay hidden forever and has since been incorporated into the international windsurf tour with its ensuing media exposure. Since that winter, I’ve been dreaming about it and, the more I saw, the more I wanted my turn. Last august I finally had the chance to go. This trip was not one of those “new places to discover”, I was really waiting for this moment. It would be my first time visiting somewhere in South America outside of Brazil, and of course, my first time in Peru. I didn’t know much about Peru but believe me, I could almost reproduce in my mind’s eye every section of this never-ending wave off El Faro.
