Maybe it’s because of all the pictures we see in magazines of large, glassy barrels reeling over coral reefs, or the videos circulating on social networks that we watch and re-watch on Youtube and Vimeo, setting the scene for daydreaming whereupon we become the star.
I reckon though it’s because when you want to organise a surf trip to Indo, all you need is a little bit of money, a couple of weeks off work, good company and to be up for having fun. This year Sumatra was our destination and we, a few members of IBATE (Isla Baja Tenerife) Surf Club, set off with the ‘great’ Félix Blackauville and his camera to capture every single moment of the trip. Nowadays, Sumatra as a surf destination is more crowded than it was, but it’s nothing like Bali, and if you go south, you can still find uncrowded surf breaks and beaches.
