BEATING THE CROWDS
With so many surfers in the world, the more renowned breaks are a magnet for the migrating types. There’s no shortage of back packing vans, motorhomes, iLoads full of Japanese surfers and so on pulling up at The Point or scouring the tracks for a more uncrowded option. Main Break always has a cast of thousands, with the Jurassic Point crew predominantly ruling the roost. It is DEFINITELY one wave you do not want to paddle out to on a sup; you’ll get told to come in an instant. But there are plenty of other options depending on how many surfers are out, which is why we get up super early. The early bird catches the worm and I rarely go out if there are more than two prone surfers out. Sup boards definitely hit hard and I am still reeling from getting a mates board in my arm as he was trying to protect a girl paddling out behind him, sending his board skyward, as I was flying down the line. F***ing painful! I thought I’d broken my arm, but it was only deep bone bruising thankfully.
