A lesser known is section from the dam in town, where there’s also a 45 minute paddle which is perfectly protected from the wind by the thick mix of Jarrah Karri and Marri tall timber. It’s a super serene place where the only local I’ve stumbled across was a kangaroo that got startled and swam across in front of me. I had no idea they could swim so good.The other all-weather flat water paddling zone in the area is the Blackwood River, also a forest lined river, or if it’s not too windy, Hamelin Bay is a stunning place with an island to aim for.
