I look over to my sister Caren Forbes. She has been paddling with me all day as well and can feel my pain. She sees what I see and hears what I hear; she isn’t going to let me stop. I find the courage to not vomit. One paddle stroke at a time and I pull in next to her as we creep closer to the finish. The music gets louder, the cheers become more succinct. I look over at my sister; she is smiling as we cross under the centuries old bridge that marks the finish. We are exhausted, but still happy that day one, and 44 kilometers, is complete. This is what the SUP 11 Cities is like.
