Entry to the river involved wading thigh deep through snow, down a steep bank and then lowering my board into the water before cautiously following it. With only a light current and high banks to shelter me from any wind this creek couldn’t have been better for my first paddle. The water was relatively shallow, but the bottom was dark volcanic sand which starkly contrasted the white landscape all around us.
