I had been following a lot of web based surf media and different surf chat forums. Always when it came to down south in Australia, sharks and heavy locals were a recurring theme. As we edged ourselves closer to the Victorian – South Australian border we noticed the crowds thinning and the water getting darker, yet still there were no sharks or attitude from locals. In fact there was absolute no bad attitude in any of the remote towns or surf spots we found on our lap, as 99% of the time there is no one to even talk to.
I think that sup surfing these remote places definitely has an advantage in beating the fear, since as a sup surfer you’re not dangling anything in the water, but the mind still races. It’s actually more of a problem to find a surf spot with someone else surfing it so you have back up.
