Beyond Nullarbor
From SA we headed across to WA driving across one of the remotest parts of the country, the famous Nullarbor Plain. After three days of solid driving and witnessing the awe inspiring vistas of the Great Australian Bight we reached the first coastal town since Cactus, some 1350km behind us. Again, we were greeted by more friendly locals and no people in the water. The day we arrived at Esperance, WA was a public holiday.
I checked the surf at the closest beach to town and it was pumping; a 3-5 foot perfect right hand beach break with the most amazing turquoise water I have ever seen, and there was NO ONE out. I couldn’t believe it, if this was the East coast there would be 250 people on it.
The surf was insane. A few more people did come out but I’m not sure if they thought I was an Esperance local and knew something, or just like I had done on most occasions gone out ‘cause they thought it was safer with someone else in the water. Not far outside of Esperance we found Cape Le Grande national park where we saw the most amazing sea; the whitest sand and the bluest water combining to make the ocean seem like a giant resort pool. Mother Nature at her finest.
