Cold Margaret
The Western Australian coast was always going to be our longest leg owing to its 12,899km of coastline. From Esperance we aimed the truck towards Margaret River and Yallingup. We set up in Yallingup for a good rest after weeks and weeks of constant travel. We scored at Yalingup, South Point near Gracetown and a few other spots, but the majority of the time it was onshore, freezing cold and raining. It seemed our run of great weather had ended. We soon high tailed it out of Margaret’s region and headed north of Perth to Lancelin. It looked good on the map, but in reality was the place that we almost died when a storm shrieking with 150km an hour winds hit and threatened to flip the van over with us inside it. It was on our hasty retreat out of there that we did some ‘too little too late’ research and found out it’s the windsurfing capital of Australia. We now know why! But I will add it does have one of the most unique and well worth visiting pubs on the Australian coastline.
