One hundred miles down the road a blow out on our trailer forced us to ditch that. After picking up our fifth board in Brighton and snatching three hours sleep, we rose early and headed for Norfolk and our awaiting hire campervan. At last then we would be travelling in style.
Our spirits sank when we saw our allocated van had no roof rack and was too short to swallow our luggage, we had no choice but to continue in the car. Totally not feeling this, our support driver, Liam, whipped out his phone and immediately got to work to find another van to pick up somewhere along our route to Scotland. Five or six major campervan hire firms turned down our plea for help before persistent Liam got through to Reiver Motorhomes near Newcastle. Run by a couple who have one campervan, they agreed to let us use it for free in light of the fact we were on a charity mission! When we picked it up from a storage yard in the middle of nowhere we could not believe their kind-hearted generosity.
