I remember seeing some video footage taken when the kids were only small. It was a wild sea with the boat being tossed around, big ocean swells, white caps and spray everywhere and when the camera panned inside the boat, you see the kids playing on the floor as it was just a regular day.
I can only imagine the amount of varied life experiences afforded to kids growing up in such an environment. The absolute freedom to roam and explore with a whole new set of life skills, compared to kids growing up on land. I find it unfathomable how much sea time there must have been. The amount of things they must have seen, and the amount of perfect surf they must have encountered along the way.
But with a few beers and time for a story or two, you can extract a few of these experiences from Dave. Like in Tahiti he explained, there were reef passes so perfect but without safe anchorage, so he had to ask Tristan to drive the boat around for a bit, while he jumped over board to get a few perfect, empty waves. After many a year traversing the globe, they came across Tonga, which seemed to cease their nomadic wanderings.
