The beauty of going to visit the Family Sheen on their island is their isolation. There’s no tourism what so ever, charter boats aren’t allowed to go out that far and the chances of seeing another surfer on either of the islands and pretty much zero. Squat. Zilch. Nada. There’re not that many places left on this ever diminishing surfing planet where you can really get away like that. Dave had thought about doing surf charters but couldn’t envisage it, but with his new found passion for sup, saw that as the perfect vehicle to have limited, select groups of people come to enjoy surfing without having to face the negative energy that often radiates towards someone with a paddle in their hands in a line up. Isolation can have its drawbacks. For Dior, at 14 is craving the social interaction of friends and will be having a go at boarding school next year, whereas Kai is in his Kingdom and can’t handle going back out into civilisation. It’s all too hectic. It’s also a fair way away from any medical attention if anything was to go wrong. Like if you chopped the end of your nose off with a drone and needed plastic surgery. You can’t really see it, but in a certain light you can notice the slight discolouration in Dave’s nose. But it’s ok coz he’s still a handsome bugger. SUP
