We disembark and step into a fierce, cold wind. The mountain guide and discover of the cave I’m about to enter, Roman Erler, leads us through the snowstorm and across a wide snow plane to a frozen face with a small hole which serves as an entrance. Inside the grotto, I am standing with 35 meters of frozen water above me in an ice cave. Or rather, in an ice world. It seems so surreal that I have difficulty processing the experience. I’ve long since wanted to go paddling on this glacier lake and now I can´t believe that this dream is coming true; I realize that I’m doing something really special right now, something no one else has done before.
