We had memories of a beach we visited a couple of years ago which we thought would be perfect to camp on our first night in Ithaca. We paddled to the beach and were slightly surprised when we found a group of about 15 hippies in hammocks and a couple of nudes on the beach. We thought we would leave them too it as didn’t want to intrude on the party. We got caught out by strong gusts of offshore winds and had no other choice than too paddle back to the small fishing village of Frikes around the headland and wait for the wind to die down. However it didn’t stop and we ended up having to pitch our tent right on the harbour wall. We used our boards as a mattress and pitched the tent on top. It was getting dark but at least we had dinner with a cracking sunset view, ‘table for two please’, baked beans, rye bread and more tinned tuna.
