4:30 am. We’ve landed in Punta Arenas, the southernmost city in the world. Outside it is cold but my main concern is the wind; as expected it is violent with gusts up to 45 knots. We see the Straits of Magellan, completely whitecapped, sometimes smoky, battered by the storm. It is blowing so strong that the car is hard to drive, but a local seaman tells me “you are in Patagonia, this is nothing”. I can’t hold back from stressing; should we have postponed?
