The Crossing
When we arrived at the “Primera Angostura” in the morning, the wind was excellent, barely 5 knots, but the “slack water” was not expected till after lunch. Moderate to strong east winds were expected for the afternoon, and I was becoming anxious. Then, around 11 am the wind started to pick up so we had to convince the Chilean Marine to authorize an early start. Fortunately they agreed and I ran to inflate my board to get ready. It was only 5 kilometers to Tierra del Fuego, and if the last hour of ebbing tide would hold me back, I would still capitalize on the flooding tide to push me across, so I got to it before the wind gets stronger.
