Sleeping Stones
It would take months without end to explore all the bays and creeks, to conduct your personal “ Miss Bay of the islands” beauty contest! (That wouldn’t stop us from trying! – Ed.) Since most of them are not at all accessible by road, reaching them comes down to a choice between horse or SUP. Our curiosity meant we spent long hours paddling every day. Our photographer, Ben, preferred using his motorised paraglider, taking the aerial route used by the birds that are the islands’ emblem. We waited for him in a sheltered bay, but never saw him arrive…the spectacular land mass of the island making for flying conditions that are far too dangerous, forcing him into a high risk, perilous landing maneuver. Ben’s a huge adrenaline freak and sensation seeker, but even he is obliged to admit defeat, leaving his rig packed down for the rest of our trip.
